Pumpkin Carving 2017

Happy Halloween! Time for some pumpkin pictures. And y'all will have to decide which pumpkin wins this year because we honestly can't. Both of us are at the top of our pumpkin carving games, respectively, and these may be our best pumpkins yet.
Colonel was totally over it this year. He came over before we got into things, sniffed around, then left the kitchen and just casually kept an eye on us from afar. Major, however, kept his sweet little head on my knee the entire time I was carving my pumpkin. He's just too much, you guys.
Our pumpkins had been sitting outside our front door and they were sunshiney warm when we started cutting into them. And let me just tell you, scooping pumpkin guts out of steamy pumpkins is substantially grosser than scooping pumpkin guts out of cool or room temperature pumpkins. I'm just sayin'.
Yes. That is my husband using a drill to carve his pumpkin. #polkcountystyle

  2. Hannah's definitely wins Most Creative/Cutest. Cody's wins for Most Intricate/Detailed. I honestly cannot choose a top winner out of the two. These are AMAZING!

  6. They're both awesome! Unlit, yours wins, Hannah. It's also the most unexpected of the two designs.
Having said that, after seeing them lit, Cody's gets my vote.

    1. His pumpkins are always impressive lit up. One year, he turned his entire pumpkin into a globe. He didn't actually carve it out, he sat and shaved it so it seemed to glow when lit. He's the master.

  7. Okay, I have reviewed the entries and here is the breakdown:

    Design
Hannah: +2 dual purpose (creature and a word)
Cody: +1 single image, well executed

    Technique
Hannah: +1 hand carved, excellent craftsmanship
Cody: +2 perfect application of state of the art tools

    Presentation
    Hannah: +15
    Cody: +15
Both look exceptional when lit up

    Miscellaneous Points:
Hannah: +2 for pumpkin colored shirt, how appropriate.
Cody: +1 for bear shirt, always appropriate.
Cody: +2 for having a slightly oriental theme, we just came back from Japan. Know your audience/judges.

    Hannah Total: 20
    Cody Total: 21

Way to go Cody. Hannah I hope you do better next year.

    1. Wow. You and Sarah both went Cody. Unbelievable.

However, I am satisfied that our presentation scored equal, and it's a consolation that Cody only beat my by 1 point in your esteemed judges' estimation. I will strive to somehow up my game even more next year.

  8. I vote the "eek", aka Hannah's Pumpkin.

    Cody's is awesome, too.

We still haven't carved pumpkins (mom of the year), but I think we will paint some while Adam is gone. Something to keep us occupied!

  9. You know. After closer inspection--I've gotta go with Hannah's. those flourishes below and above the word--and knowing that it was hand-carved while Cody had to employ the use of state-of-the-art power tools. Hannah's gets it.

    next year, Cody.
