This will be my longest confession to date.
It's actually a double-confession of sorts.
Part I : one of my favorite parts of Christmas is getting Christmas cards in the mail.
There's something so magical and spectacular about opening your mailbox and seeing a stack of personal cards instead of credit card applications and coupons to Pet Supermarket.
Since we've been married, I have never thrown away a single Christmas card we've received.
I am the extreme opposite of a packrat, and I absolutely detest clutter.
But there is a special drawer in my house just for Christmas cards.
I love them.
Part II : I always keep one of our own Christmas cards each year. They're pretty, they cost money, and they're a fun little recap of our year together.
And even though I have
And I don't expect them to.
Well, not entirely anyway.
Is this the craziest confession I've made yet?
Can we still be friends, and more importantly, will you still send me a Christmas card now that you know this about me?
Is there anyone else out there who keeps their own Christmas cards? I cannot possibly be the only person on this planet who does that, right?
get the card, see the card, smile at the card
ReplyDeletethrow the card away
love you!
Which is exactly why I keep my own Christmas card. Because everyone else except Mom probably throws them away.
DeleteWe keep ours! But I don't keep Birthday or Thank you cards. 😂
DeleteSame. I keep them all for a while but periodically go through and throw away.
DeleteI keep the special cards (ones with photos, or from special friends). I'm behind on getting mine done this year, so I might be sending out Happy New Year's cards. lol
ReplyDeleteMy Mom keeps just about all the cards she and my Dad have received (for any/all holidays).
I saw this tradition and thought of you!
"Icelanders have a beautiful tradition of giving books to each other on Christmas Eve and then spending the night reading. This custom is so deeply ingrained in the culture that it is the reason for the Jolabokaflod, or “Christmas Book Flood,” when the majority of books in Iceland are sold between September and December in preparation for Christmas giving."
Merry Christmas!
What a cool tradition! I think my Mom sent me something about that last year, and my friend texted me a link about it a few days ago, too. I like that everyone associates me with books and reading! :)
DeleteI'm that friend! Sorry, just wanted to add a name to that reference ;) I still say let's move to Iceland.
DeleteI think it would be too cold for me to live there. I mean "ice" is in the name of the country and everything.
DeleteI love this about you.
ReplyDeleteI also keep one of our own from each year :)
#greatminds
DeleteI keep mine as well! Granted, I usually only get ones from families I nanny/babysit for...so it's typically not more than 10. But I'm sure I will always do that. Do you want me to make you a little Christmas card book for each year?! That way you can set them out at Christmas time and enjoy them. I'd be happy to ;)
ReplyDeleteUm, YES! I would love that! We should figure out a day that you could come over and we could work on them together. :)
DeleteI only keep cards that have a beautiful handwritten message (and also all of yours because #pictures). I also have a box of notes between me and friends in high school :)
ReplyDeleteAww, it makes me happy you keep mine! :)
DeleteI love Christmas cards!! I don't typically save all of the cards, but I do save all of the picture ones. I actually leave them up all year so we can use them as prayer reminders. I also save one of our own (or two if it's double sided). My plan is to make a scrapbook of our own cards, but I've also been given the idea to frame them and set them out each year.
ReplyDeleteIt's always been my plan to make a scrapbook of our own cards, too, but I like my sister-in-law's idea to make little yearly scrapbooks of all the cards we keep. :) Framing them is a great idea!
